Santa Clara ticket lottery overwhelmed with requests by hopeless trade seekers

While the Grateful Dead’s “online mail order” for Santa Clara did not stir the same level of unrest in the Deadhead community as the Chicago Ticketmaster fiasco or GDTSTOO mail order, it certainly came with its own nuisances.

Many fans have taken their winning Santa Clara ticket requests straight to ticket resellers, Facebook groups and music forums in hopeless attempts to trade for tickets to the final Grateful Dead shows in Chicago over the July 4 weekend.

“The only reason I requested tickets for the Santa Clara shows was so I could try and trade them for tickets to Chicago. I don’t have a hotel or plane booked for Santa Clara, and I am not planning on it,” one particularly salty fan expressed on Facebook.

In a recent letter from the band on dead50.net, the band members promised to arrange for the tickets to the recently announced Santa Clara shows to find their way to the fans. Now everyone is wondering, were the tickets to Santa Clara awarded to the right fans?

“I would give up my own house before trading my Chicago tickets for Santa Clara tickets,” one diehard fan said on Twitter early Friday morning.
